QUARTIERS EN MOUVEMENT

The Pierre Rollin district of Amiens is undergoing major urban redevelopment over several years. Under the impetus of the Jacques Tati cultural center, located in the heart of the district, and with the support of the Daniel et Nina Carasso Foundation, a dozen artists have developed a citizen art project: Rollin(g) Stones. The aim of the project is to help local residents transform their environment.

Valerie Oberleithner, choreographer, and Martine Marras, photographer, have carried out a unique experiment: that of reversing the path of encounters by first proposing artistic practices in the homes of local residents, and then gradually encouraging people to go out, open up to others, collaborate and (re)become actors in their own lives.

This process unfolded following the same protocol: Valerie and Martine knocked on doors, Valerie proposed dance practices to people and then took them outside to create dance actions under Martine's photographic gaze. Together, they create a series of events which, after a few months, form a real dynamic between local residents, touched by movement and images. Choreography and photography are in dialogue, in synergy, as a driving force for social emancipation.

In this book-object, Valerie and Martine bear witness to a sincere approach that confirms the need for artists - and their practices - to be as close as possible to citizens.
